Cheltenham’s newest hotel, the Holiday Inn Express, headlined the battle against the economic downturn this month by kick-starting the summer with a barbeque networking event to get the business community together.

With many businesses facing uncertain times, the Holiday Inn Express encouraged local employers to network with each other in its newly landscaped courtyard. The BBQ buffet was complimented by summer cocktails and complimentary wine tasting. Fundraising for the local community was also supported with raffle proceeds being donated to the Mayor’s Charities - Winston’s Wish and Cheltenham Animal Shelter.

The Mayor himself attended the event informally, to meet and greet many of Cheltenham’s local businesses.

“In the midst of a recession, finding new ways to meet customers is now more important than ever,” says Jason Hiley General Manager “This event provided support for local companies to introduce themselves to potential clients, whilst the hotel provided an enjoyable and entertaining evening.”

Graham Philpot, economic development officer for Cheltenham Borough Council, said in a previous statement: ‘’Local businesses are always asking for a way to talk to and relate with each other because of the current economic climate, and we are therefore pleased to see the new Holiday Inn Express taking the lead with this agenda. These actions will enhance and benefit individual organisations, as well as the economy of the borough.’’

Kimberley Hatherall, Sales & Marketing Manager, also commented “Our first year has seen us establish ourselves as a new business in Cheltenham. We wanted to share this success with the rest of the town. As well as providing discounts for business people in Cheltenham, we host regular events where companies can share ideas and exchange information. This is our way helping our local business colleagues during these challenging times.”
