1.1. Water Conservation
Our bedrooms are fitted with state of the art power showers with water saving devices. Our aerated shower heads restrict water flow and therefore use less water during your shower. A conventional shower uses 35 litres of water on average, and our devices reduce this by 10% - a saving of almost 1300 litres of water per bedroom if used daily [1].
All bathroom facilities throughout the hotel are fitted with water saving appliances which meet with AECB Best Practice Standards for water saving [2]. These include basin and bidet taps which save water up to 80%, and dual flush WC controls providing water efficient systems. We employ a ‘Reuse Your Towel’ initiative and invite guests to save water and the environment with an option to not request new linens every day.
Our hotel kitchen also makes use of water saving dishwasher systems which reduce our consumption during every cycle. We endeavour to conserve precious water resources and offset some of the effects water wastage contributes to climate change.
1.2. Energy Saving
Our hotel has invested in LED lighting for all public areas and meeting rooms since February 2009. Unlike filament lighting, our light bulbs never burn out, and unlike fluorescent lighting our lights do not contain mercury or other toxic substances. Our LED lights waste less energy on heat and use electricity more efficiently, contributing to our overall energy saving scheme.
Our water source heat pumps that generate water to all areas of the hotel are incredibly efficient. The temperature controls are automatically synchronised ensuring only the minimum amount of energy is needed to heat our tanks. Similarly, in the office all stations use the minimum amount of electrical energy and are switched off when not in use.
1.3. Sourcing Sensibly
We source our supplies within Gloucestershire, encouraging activity in the regional economy as well as reducing our carbon footprint. We monitor and check where our supplies have come from and ensure they have also been sourced ethically. Our Italian coffee comes from the best green beans and is processed with the utmost care from sustainable sources [3].
We also source our cleaning supplies locally, and use chemicals that exceed the standard eco-friendly processes. We only use products that are free from harmful substances to both us and the environment; with bio-degradable compounds and reusable containers that aid our eco-friendly contribution to the planet.
2. Creating Great Partnerships
We are committed to supporting our local businesses
Since the beginning, we have supported our local business community and have proactively developed long term partnerships with neighbouring businesses.
2.2 Working Together
We collaborate with small businesses in the area, in terms of sponsorship for our services, and by recommending their trade to others. We partner with several local outlets and actively refer our customers to our partners. In February 2010, we also worked with a local brewery to provide our guests with traditionally brewed ales and cider, affirming our commitment to work with small businesses. In May 2008, we became proud sponsors of ‘Cheltenham Business Pride’, and offered our facilities to the council so that over 100 businesses could come together. This year, we are official sponsors of ‘Gloucestershire Business United’, a new initiative to encourage local businesses to work together. We are also official partners with ‘Gloucestershire Rugby Festival’, a new event for the town, and our facilities and services will assist in making this Festival a growing success.
We also host regular free networking events and encourage local business to attend as an opportunity to strengthen our corporate relationship within the community.
3. Empowering People at Work
What’s significant is the way we get people to perform at their best
Premier Circuit hotels Ltd believes its successes are based upon strong teamwork, solidarity and training. Supported by a friendly atmosphere, we employ dedicated people undertaking their work through a modern and dynamic approach. We channel empowerment through training and coaching, we keep things challenging at every opportunity and at the same time still have fun. It is a rewarding experience which stimulates everyone to be “the best”.
3.1 Preparing for Success
We employ a range of robust training schemes that encourage employees to “be themselves” and increase employee loyalty to the business. Staff are empowered with knowledge, skills, and best practices which support our goal to achieve service excellence. Our ‘Stay Real’ training programme is unique to the brand and enables staff to offer a genuine service with a consistent approach to exceeding guest expectations.
3.2 Employee Excellence
We recognise Employee Excellence and reward our employees for achieving the company goals, their personal goals and for going the extra mile within the workplace. We recognise:
1. An individual who has inspired their team to achieve exceptional performance within the workplace.
2. Noticeable improvements in the way our services are delivered.
3. Individual actions that have a positive effect on our guests’ experiences.
We employ a two way communication hierarchy and invite staff to contribute to the overall strategy and operations of the business. We recognise our successes are attributable to the staff we employ, and therefore embrace their ability to understand our guests better than anyone else.
3.3. Wellness and Safety in the Workplace
We take our staff welfare very seriously and their wellness in the workplace is at the forefront of our operations. We pledge a safe working environment and take into consideration individual needs and requirements in the workplace. We ensure our staff are trained to comply with Health and Safety requirements such as Food Safety, Fire Life and Safety and First Aid; all of which assist in creating a safe working environment for both guests and employees.
4. Supporting the Local Community
Our services extend beyond our front door
We have been supporters of our local community since opening. Our services are not restricted to the guests we serve at front desk, but we go the extra mile to care for the community in which we work in.
4.1 Fundraising
We continue to support Cheltenham based charities and every year we offer fundraising initiatives to maintain much needed funds in the area.
In 2008, we supported the ‘Cobalt Appeal’ to help raise much needed funds to build a cancer screening unit in Cheltenham. Our hotel organised a “New York” themed coffee morning and BBQ lunch, as well as a raffle where proceeds were donated to The Cobalt Appeal Fund. Our fundraising has made a huge difference to the quality of life for those suffering from cancer and other serious illnesses.
This year, we worked alongside Well Child, a regional based charity that supports sick children and families. We helped promote their charity and collaborated for our hotel and Well Child to visit a local special needs school this Easter. We provided Easter Gifts for the children, delivered by our ‘Charlie the Chicken’ mascot, and Well Child had an opportunity to keep their fundraising initiatives alive.
4.2 Community Work Placements
This year we have worked alongside Cheltenham’s National Star College, who provide educational opportunities for children with physical and mental difficulties. We have supported the Star Appeal by donating raffle prizes to help raise money for the school. We have also organised for their pupils to visit the hotel as part of their work experience programme.
Recently, we have assisted a pupil with a 5 week work experience programme within our hotel. We are proud to support pupils who might not otherwise gain the valuable work and social experience because of their capabilities.
We are also working closely with a Cheltenham based international learning school, and look forward to assisting more international pupils with a work placement programme at our hotel.
